In the West, if the King says, "Dig a hole!", the populace as one exclaim "Yes, Your Majesty!" -- and then spend four months failing to find a shovel.
In the East, if the King says, "Dig a hole!", the populace digs the hole, but spend the entire time grumbling about what an unreasonable demand it is. And then the next King outlaws shovels.
Any takers for other Kingdoms?
