Just heard on the news that Krispy Kreme in Medford is closing its doors, due to the company's money problems. I'll miss it (being one of those people who actually likes their donuts), but it's probably far better for my health this way...

It was a fortunate (for me) happenstance that y'all picked up enough to have something to do when I dragged you off to the midday sing downtown. I couldn't leave you at home because you were too young. Messiah Season was one of my ways of coping with holidays I couldn't eliminate.

There is a certain something to Krispy Kreme, which I suspect is a much higher sugar content. Their doughnuts are smaller, lighter, and somehow more expensive than at DD, but if you go and get them hot they are devilish.

Heh. When my niece was about 18 months old, I was left alone with her for about 10 minutes. When my sister came back, I went "OK Jessica, na na na na na..." to which she excitedly responded "NanananananaBat-Baby!".

My sister got this shocked look on her face and said "Oh no. You bonded with her."

Re: KK. Originally from North Carolina, home of KK. Never was that fond of 'em since they're just too sweet for me. Vastly prefer Dunkin's....of which there aren't any here in CA.

it's definitely the role of Aunts & Uncles to do this sort of thing for their niblings. My sister has schooled our kids in a number of these type of thing.

To which we have taught our kids:

'What noise does the sheep make (etc)? What noise does Auntie Karen make? "CHOCOLATE!"'

Absolutely. ALtho the microwaved or oven-reheated is close to bliss....

Our theory (growing up in North Carolina and having one way too close to home) was that there was lard in the icing, which gave it it's unique taste. However, the lightness of them is something I've never found duplicated.


And I love to watch them being made...

It started with just the Hallelujah Chorus, which I picked up when my brother sang it. In the early, extremely sleep-deprived days of motherhood, when baby needed to eat every two hours day and night (yes, really, for that child) and screamed sometimes for reasons I just couldn't fathom, I would clutch baby to my chest, sit in the rocking chair rocky fiercely and bellow the Hallejah Chorus. Which baby appears to have decided was a gentle lullaby.

Baby's dad mentioned it to an office friend who gifted me with a score. And I learned more of the thing. Wasn't sure I liked it, still not sure actually, but sang it a lot. Poor kids had no choice but be immersed from late November through mid-December, when open sings ended.

Please tell me Handel does not constitute child abuse.
